Black Tongkat Ali
Black Tongkat Ali refers to the plant Polyalthia bullata, which, as previously mentioned, is not botanically related to Eurycoma longifolia. In Malay and Indonesian, Black Tongkat Ali is known as Pasak Bumi Hitam.
Hitam translates as "black.
Red Tongkat Ali
Very little is known about Red Tongkat Ali, and there is no botanical name available for it.
The closest identification we have for Red Tongkat Ali is Stema tuberosa, which is sometimes found for sale on the internet.
However, there is no such plant.
There is a plant called Stemona tuberosa, which is used therapeutically in Chinese medicine. Stemona tuberosa, known as Bai Bu (Hundred Parts), is used for parasite treatment and to moisturize the lungs and relieve coughing.
In Malay and Indonesian, Red Tongkat Ali is referred to as Pasak Bumi Merah.
Merah translates as "red."
Further research is required to determine if the plant exists and its safety and effectiveness before any assessments can be made. Our search yielded no scientific or research entries for "Stema Tuberosa" or "Pasak Bumi Merah," except for a single entry in the National Institutes of Health database discussing the use of authentic Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) as an alternative treatment to pharmaceutical testosterone replacement therapy in the treatment of osteoporosis. This paper does not mention Black or Red Tongkat Ali.
Quassinoids: The Active Compounds of Tongkat Ali
