Andropause, Estrogen, and Energy (and what you can do about it)

Andropause, also known as male-menopause, is the hormonal shift which naturally occurs in men as they age. Starting at between the ages of 30 and 40, the amount of free testosterone in the male body begins a slow decline. Coincidentally, it is at this same exact time that men begin to complain about old age. It is at this time that we see a perceived slowing of metabolism, low energy, excess weight gain, and trouble getting "back into" shape.

Testosterone is directly responsible for every single one of these common complains made by men as they begin to age. Secondly, hops, aside from soy, are the most potent source of estrogen in our diets. Men drink beer, and every time they do they are getting an extra dose of estrogen. When is known as "brewer's droop," is ED caused by the constant exposure to hops--and their estrogen--by beer brewers and beer enthusiasts. The "beer belly" is not because of extra calories, but actually is the result of estrogen in the body, telling it to store fat around the midsection--great for bearing children, not great for men. Luckily, we can limit our expose to estrogen containing foods, which will bring the body closer to its correct levels of hormones; unfortunately, that still leaves the male body lacking the high levels of testosterone which made their youth so enjoyable.
